Larian Studios Reveal a Fresh Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG to Date

The anticipation around this year's gaming ceremony was significant, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction implies that the team could be designing a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. For now, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it pioneered the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—traits that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths you can achieve with a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also notoriously open-ended, allowing players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be completed in a variety of manners, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is these creative systems that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, players can get ready for another adventure in this legendary franchise.
